Some of both actually. There was a time when I really wanted to get them, but now I don't really care so much. There are some accomplishments out there that are greater than achievements. Take these for example:

-3 heart run in any Zelda game
-Prestiging in any COD game (takes time)
-Collecting everything in Demon's Souls
-Getting all the endings in Chrono Trigger
-Speed runs in most video games

Not everything has to be about getting achievements/trophies. To some, it is life but to others it is not as important. Take your pick.

I do it more as a fun type of thing, but I also do it cause I feel like if I get all or at least most of the achievements I got the most out of the game that I could. The whole gamer score thing doesn't mean anything to me really... I have a higher one mainly just cause I've had my Xbox since launch and my parents don't know what to buy me for xmas/b-days so they just give me a few games so mines pretty high just cause I've played a lot of games not cause I go psycho crazy for points.
