Teenybopper megastar Justin Bieber probably seems like the essence of "anti-metal" to about 99% of Ultimate-Guitar users. He’s a manufactured, clean-cut product of a corporate music-machine. He also really digs Metallica, according to Ultimate Classic Rock... And old school Metallica at that. In an interview with GQ magazine, the "Baby" and "Somebody To Love" singer professed to an appreciation of the bay area thrashers’ pre-"Black Album" tracks: "'One', 'Fade To Black'. Those are my jams."

The Canadian pop-star has provoked some divisive responses in the rock and roll community. The Black Keys’ Patrick Carney remarked last year in regard to Bieber’s Grammy nominations:

"I don't have any patience and I can't bulls--t myself by sitting through a Justin Bieber song. I am not interested in that s--t. I am an adult and really I don't know who the f--k listens to Justin Bieber."

Anthony Kiedis of the Red Hot Chili Peppers on the other hand, professed to having cried during Bieber’s "Never Say Never" concert film:

"I sat on an airplane recently, coming from Hawaii to Los Angeles, with Rick Rubin (RHCP producer) just across the aisle, watching the Justin Bieber movie, 'Never Say Never'. I cried twice during that film and I want the world to know that!"

The object of Bieber’s affections, meanwhile, have been making headlines recently for their criticism of the metal community. Metallica drummer Lars Ulrich claimed in an interview with Maxim magazine that the metal community is "up its own a-s":

"I sometimes think that the metal community is just so f--king serious and up its own a-s. Once in a while it needs a little poke, and I don’t mind being that guy. Nobody else seems to do it."
