Thread: Your Mass Effect 2 Save May Not Work With Part 3

Below is information that may be considered spoilery.

Some players may have to start fresh when they break open a copy of Mass Effect 3.

BioWare producer Casey Hudson explained to GameInformer that if the end sequences of your playthrough of Mass Effect 2 results in Commander Shepard dying, you may as well forget about keeping the save file around on your harddrive for when part three is released.

"Dead is dead. Mass Effect 3, as with the rest of the trilogy, is Shepard's story. If you have a dead Shepard at the end of Mass Effect 2, that saved game won't import into Mass Effect 3, Hudson explained.

"You can play Mass Effect 3 if you died in Mass Effect 2 of course, but you'll have to create a new Shepard. Harsh? Yes. But we wouldn't be serious about the concept of a suicide mission if you couldn't die and your death didn't have serious consequences."

No worries, BioWare. I'm sure most fans won't have a problem with replaying Mass Effect 2 again for the thirtieth time if need be.

This speaks for itself, though for anyone playing the game, make sure Shepard doesn't die! Look out for #1!

What?! I thought I heard straight from Bioware that if you import a ME2 file into ME3 where Shepard dies, you end up playing as a new character with your choices from the other 2 games intact. I can see why they would do that for the sake of story simplicity, but the alternative would actually have been kinda cool.

but if Shepard is resurrected in Mass Effect 2, why can't he be in Mass Effect 3? But one of my Shepard's lived so I don't really care.

Have you finished the game? If so, then why ask that question?

Not being able to play ME3 AT ALL if your Shepard died would be harsh
