Thread: How to play the Starcraft 2 beta without a beta key! (No multiplapyer, only vs. AI)

So I've been dying to play the Starcraft 2 beta! But who knows when, if ever, I'll get a beta key. Thankfully some folks have figured out a way for us guys without 500 bucks to burn to try out the beta, and I have to admit, it is incredibly sweet.

Here's how:

1) Download the Starcraft 2 beta client. It's 1.6 gigs. (Download it here: StarCraft 2: Wings of Liberty US Closed Beta Client - Big Download )
2) Install it, update it.
3) UPDATE Extract the Lazy Launcher 2 (lazylaunch2.zip) and copy it into the directory Starcraft 2 was installed.
4) Run the Lazy Launcher, and it'll ask you to select a map. As of this writing, only specially designed maps have AI, you can extract and use these Sc2Ai.rar

And there you go, enjoy!

I'll try and update this with new info... I hear someone is working on multiplayer LAN support (hell yeah!)

And just so we're clear, I don't endorse any kind of illegal acts. Hell, I know I'm buying the fanciest version of Starcraft 2 they put out there.

Well quite interesting, if i had the computer to run it i would definitely be playing this right now.
Even if its PvE and not PVP, its still Starcraft 2!

It's cool just to try out the units and see the graphics for yourself. This gameplay of course is no where near final.

Is there one for mac ? im going to find a torrent

Not too sure on sys reqs, but the game seems very scalable.

Hmm i cant find a torrent for mac on any site i dont think the beta was released for mac yet anyways

im going to see if theres a cider or port somewhere

Blizzard is famous for making games that look great but can run on computers from 5 years ago, go and try it.

Recommended requirements:
Video Card: GeForce 8000 or Radeon 2000 series with 512Mb of vRAM
CPU: Core 2 Duo or Athlon X2
RAM: 2Gb
Internet: ADSL 3 Mbit
Optimal requirements:
Video card: Geforce 9000er or Radeon 3000er Series
CPU: Core 2 Duo 3 Ghz or Athlon X2
RAM: 2Gb con DualChannel mode.

My Anti-Virus had a infection/trojan alert on the lazylauncher. Might be a false alarm, but just putting it out there.

Haha I no longer have to think about doing this because I got into the Beta today. Too bad I suck at Starcraft and RTS in general.

It's a false positive on the lazy launch, everyone gets it.
If you already got the client, you can get LazyLaunch 2.0 with latest version of AI computer and Maps here:

Only thing left needed is LAN.

it keeps saying unable to open maps. What can I do?

Wow even my crappy laptop can run it pretty good on low settings

how do you get it to work I downloaded it plus lazy launch, then drag lazylaunch over the starcraft 2 icon to start which it does but then it says cant load map. Ideas?

Does this still work? Im thinking about giving starcraft a try, but I want to see how it runs on my computer
