Default Petitions brought for 21 states - including Georgia - to secede from the union

Petitions brought for 21 states - including Georgia - to secede from the union | 11alive.com

ATLANTA - In the wake of the reelection of President Obama last week, the White House website has been flooded by a number of petition requests for the peaceful secession of at least 21 states - including Georgia -- from the union.

The petitions use the White House's "We The People" portal website, which allows individuals to craft petitions and collect signatures to obtain a formal response from the government within what the site calls "a timely fashion."

"If a petition meets the signature threshold, it will be reviewed by the Administration and we will issue a response," says the instructions on the website.

Secession petitions have been filed from Alabama, Arkansas, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisiana, Michigan, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, North Dakota, Oklahoma, Oregon, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Texas.

Some of the petitions - notably the one from Texas - points to issues with the federal government, and how spending issues have not been brought under control. It compares that with the situation in Texas, where, it says, the state "maintains a balanced budget and is the 15th largest economy in the world."

Petitions that are submitted to the site need at least 25,000 signatures within 30 days to become eligible for receiving a formal response from officials with the Obama Administration. As of Monday afternoon, the petition for the state of Texas has gained more than 25,300 signatures. That total was reached in less than three days.

The petition for the state of Georgia's secession has received about 4,800 signatures in two days.

I wouldn't worry too much. I live in Michigan, and I can assure you, there was no proposal on the ballots to secede if Obama was re-elected. Whoever started those petitions were in no way associated with the governments of any of those states... Just local nut jobs who would probably have started a petition regardless of who won.

In short, if your state government didn't hold a vote to secede from the federal government, then your state probably isn't seceding anytime too soon.

You're correct, no state will be seceding. However, these "nut jobs" are just more proof that faith in the government is at an all-time low. Gun/precious metals sales have been through the roof the last few years, the unemployment situation is bleak at best, the housing market is terrible, the dollar loses more value everyday, at least 30 million people are on food stamps, Social Security is depleting at an alarming rate, etc. It's sad to say, but if you live in this country right now, you are living through one of the worst periods its ever been through.

I'm not saying Romney had all the answers, and these nut jobs aren't either. They're saying what most people are thinking but are too scared to say; We're so far in debt that it's ridiculous and Obama's answer to that is by letting more people go on welfare, pushing this giant healthcare reform through and doing nothing about the situation of illegal immigrants to name a few.

The nut jobs have every right to be angry, and this is just one legitimate, lawful way of expressing that anger and frustration.

I find that when choosing the shiniest of two turds pick the one that's already black. The crusty old white ones are too far gone.

But in all seriousness our economy, government, and more are all involved in an infinitely complex web of interaction. The odd thing about being a president is that you don't have all the control. Hell, the president barely has any of the power necessary to assault the root of problems. He can only pluck at the strings he has available that will result the affect closest to what he truly wants to do.

One of the largest issues our economy has is how we handle corporations. If we could properly tax corporations then we'd see more money flowing back into the lowest levels instead of closed loop investment. In countries like China the government ALWAYS gets what they deserve... if not more. Of course we don't want to be like China but the fact of the matter is a lot of our laws governing situations like these are piecemeal and tattered at best.

The reason I voted for Obama is because I felt he was a humanist, believed in what he was doing, and is attacking what I find to be one of the primary causes of our economic situation... corporations. In addition Obama has done wonders to repair our foreign relations.

Romney on the other hand just disturbed me. So many secrets, so much money flowing from mysterious places to mysterious places, tons of strange things pointing back to him, and even a few more disturbing things of which I was personally privy too. These are the very things we don't need.

In governance we need transparency and that's something we have long not had and it need not degrade further.

I don't see any of them seceding down the road but it shows how divided the U.S. really is. I'm also a little surprised about a few states as well. New Jersey and New York? You saw what happened with Sandy right? If they left and another hurricane occurred, how would they get support? That's why it wouldn't happen.

The "little people" often who I prefer to call the ignorant masses often fail to understand what the government does for them. Even if you did secede it would cause you more grief than anything. Interstate roads, global airway management, crisis support and management, education, and more are all provided by the government. If you secede you need to begin paying for these services or finding convoluted alternatives.

Understanding this is what allows any informed man to infer that all those signatures were from morons, hicks, and ignoramuses. Hell, I'd love to see Texas secede. I'm incredibly interested to see how they'd handle the border issues and raging drug war without our nations support. Let's see how well that economy holds up when you're renegotiating trade taxes with foreign countries, paying for your own border defence, paying for interstate roads, and more.

I, being from Canada, love all this "Screw this I'm moving to canada!" from the people who "lost" the vote. News Flash. Canada is a socialist country. We have universal healthcare and government corporations. Don't like obamacare? Don't come here because Canada Likes Obama and what he is doing, or trying to do, in the USA.

I try to maintain objectivity but I find that everyone who supported Romney was either ignorant in how pretty much everything in our nation works... or had a rather dirty second agenda.

It's a bit difficult to get into. In order to really explain I'd have to write what would probably be hundreds of pages explaining my logic, citations, sources, and vast amounts of information on a wide variety of topics. I'd personally love to get into it but I don't have the time.

I'm going to sound incredibly vague here but my main gripes with Romney consist of several issues with corporate law. He paints incredibly inaccurate pictures of systems, that I know he understands, in order to cast the negative implications of numerous policies as positives.

I also found him to be a bit seedy. That isn't a character that I can objectively regard as a negative for a president but I believe, through my experience, that we need transparency in our government. People need to know how things work, why they work as they do, and why they are or aren't changing. He obfuscates things in a way I find harmful to what could potentially be our global future.

Quite frankly a lot of his solutions only appear to be logically sound in the same way that assuming the description "it's on the road, and has tires and a windshield" means it's a car. Sorry, wrong, that's the space shuttle being delayed on its month long trip into retirement through a metropolitan area.

Now, most of us with an understanding of the worlds incredibly complicated tax system understand why Romney is hiding his tax returns. I won't get into that here but basically he's avoiding incredible amounts of taxes. Most of which are legal (several Dutch sandwhiches, sides of swiss, the ol' triple loop, bounce twice and back, etc... yes they all have funny names. Yes, some sound more serious. But in several cases he quite frankly committed several now non-prosecution tax crimes. Another simple line of reasoning I can pursue would be the fact that lowering taxes for corporations doesn't result in increased jobs, money, or anything good for the lower/middle class. This is a hard fact of economics that once again I don't have time to explain. But it basically comes down to a simple explanation like this: If I gave Apple one billion dollars how would that effect you? Basically, it doesn't... at least not positively. Corporations regularly participate in a phenomenon called closed loop investment which forms closed loop economies. This process forms due to the fact that companies chase after efficiency and the reason why it doesn't return to the national economy is because of diminishing returns. That excess money will mostly go into individuals (shareholders, ceos, etc) hands and not back into the company... and when it does it goes into a closed loop that inevitably only benifits those in the loop and WHAM... more money back into those individuals.

Romney's official and unofficial campaign supporters and donators also committed some incredibly underhanded shit during the election. When I say unofficial I mean disguised campaign donations that we're either caught in a legal loophole or fairly uncheckable. But the weirdest thing was how he obfuscated his campaign spending... with lots of money obviously going to some agencies and some being hidden, redirected, moved around, then arriving at an agency. Several of these agencies may/may-not have committed ballot tampering. They definitely committed forms of electioneering that I believe should be considered treason.

I find that the people most susceptible to these kinds of perception alterations are those already predisposed to a particular party. The crowd who goes "I'm voting republican/democrat!". A lot of people also felt betrayed by Obama and his policies and simply voted for whatever wasn't Obama. I can also think of a thousand and one other reasons why people would vote for Romney based on stupid crap like this. The ignorant few predisposed to vote for Romney because they don't really understand what he's talking about. "If I do X for Y then you'll all be better off!" Well damn I want to be better off unlike I wasn't under Obama! That's like rooting for cancer because the doctor couldn't cure cancer.

This goes both ways but the way Romney obfuscates made it doubly misleading. I personally dislike a great deal of what Obama represents as well but he is obviously a superior president for the U.S right now and anyone without an agenda will agree. I can give a small brief why:
    1. He's done an incredible job in repairing our public relations with other countries. This can't be overstated.
    2. He isn't a crusty old white man leading the most powerful nation. This ties into 1.
    3. He's a humanist at his core to anyone familiar with his work. This has vast implications.
    4. He isn't Romney. If Romney was elected the world would have seen it has "a corporate fat cat running the U.S". In some lights it would even appear like corporations were running our country. Hell, you've seen the leaked videos of Romney talking behind closed doors with friends, investors, and contributors? "Washington is where the money is", yada yada womens rights, etc. Even if out of context it paints a bad foreign picture.

They both have a lot of flaws but our economy is in a weak state because of lack of control of these megacorporations. I'm not saying this out of hate, fear, spite, or to be one of those doom-n-gloomers. It's from experience. I know how they work, who runs them, how they got there, and a lot more.

My 2 cents: Obama under-performs and Romney is moving us in the completely wrong direction. I'd rather be moving forward albeit slowly.

Our country is barely a democracy. Just because we all cast a vote doesn't mean they're all worth the same. This is mostly because of how our system devolved into a two party system and how crap the electoral college is now that we have technology that makes it completely obsolete.

I doubt we'll ever see the electoral college retired. It gives too much power to certain individuals, groups, and states which in turn guarantee it's stability. It's like a rocket powered by rocket fuel that makes rocket fuel by flying and thus can make more rocket fuel to fly some more.

But hey, at least it's not Australia where all elections are decided by the betting house. At least our forefathers got that no-betting on elections thing right.
