Drag Me To Hell
a review by Greg Arganda
Sam Raimi's "Drag Me To Hell" claws out of the ground through the depths of hell and pukes on any on-lookers in horrifying glory. This film's story is about a young beautiful woman named Christine Brown (played by Alison Lohman) who simply wants to get ahead in life. With a big promotion in her loan office up for grabs, she is willing to make all the tough decisions to get the position.
While waiting at her desk is Mrs. Ganush (played by Lorna Raver) who simply wants a third extension on her house loan. Taking the chance to make the hard decisions, Christine denies her the loan and forces Mrs. Ganush to beg for mercy, she cannot be thrown out onto the street. Christine denies her her own sympathy, and in-turn pissed off the wrong granny. After work she heads to her car, seeing Mrs. Ganush's car in the parking lot, hearing her rasping cough somewhere in the distance. Waiting for her in the car, is the gypsy Mrs. Ganush, ready to curse her with the hell-bringing demon, the Lamia. She is cursed to be haunted by the Lamia's demon for three days and finally the punishment of the Lamia, being dragged to hell.
This film is a glorious approach to horror films today, the presence of the antagonist Mrs. Ganush is absolutely terrifying, the film is gross and disgustingly beautiful and the usage of C.G.I. to tell the tale of the Lamia's evil spirit is fantastic. The blind eye of Mrs. Ganush staring deeply into the eyes of Christine Brown says so much with no words at all. Her appearance is like that of the walking dead, she carries a powerfully terrifying figure that I just loved.
The film's no holds barred approach to grossing the audience out will please to no end because of how it will make one cringe and squirm. Seeing Mrs. Ganush's false teeth fall out and her attempting to bite Christine Brown in the face, slobbering all over her will simply make you laugh and cringe at the same time, it's a load of gross fun.
The C.G.I. usage in the film was incredibly tasteful, we the audience get to watch as the Lamia's spirit crawls up the wall like a shadow. It's really reminiscent of Bram Stoker's Dracula because we see the Lamia's shadow crawling up the walls like Dracula's shadow which is a wonderful tribute to make.
I give this film two damned thumbs up for being a terrifyingly fun experience that will please to the depths of hell. I recommend everyone to go see it.

Yeah, from what I've seen during theater checks today when I worked as an Usher, this movie looks pretty good. I may go see it sometime after I go see Up and The Hangover.
I saw this movie and have mixed opinions, on the one hand I am a fan of Sam Raimis work having seen and memorized the Evil Dead movie, I was glad that it didn't go CGI crazy like most horror films do nowadays but for this being a Raimi film i expected more blood, I recommend it though
Annoying Swiftor since August 2008
Swift shouldn't play games that make him mad, he'll wind up pulling out his hair.... oh waitWho's trolling jigsauce? ~Swiftor
See it Ruddy, we're all counting on you.
It will be a worthwhile venture.
He certainly knows what he is doing when it comes to horror movies.
At least we got some puke, saliva, maggots and preservatives enough to gross everyone out in the film.
Seen this film - HIGHLY Reccommend it![]()
We had it Rated 15 though, and even though i am 16,i feel this film should be an 18. (I'm from U.K)
I saw this with Gulpy and Swift on Sunday. I enjoyed the movie. It was spooky horror on the level of the Ring, but it was definitely funny and horrific at the same time. I cringe many times.
You don't think funny when you think horror, but this movie does well meshing it together. Highly recommended.![]()
