Ok so i was watching swift play gta4 and this dude gtachivas come in the chatroom talking spanish.So im like"time him out"but then i saw he just wanted to know swifts gamertag.So i start helping him and i told the mods not to time him out.So at the end i help him but he gets timedout anyway.I didnt felt bad in anyway because i told him to talk english.

So i know that there are ppl in the chat room that know spanish so i had the idea for those ppl to be kinda like translators for ppl who talk spanish.I dont know about the other languages but i know spanish is one of the most common on jtv.So my idea is that the translator help the ppl with whatever they need and then warn them to talk english.If they cant then the translator will tell him not to talk.If he keeps talking then ban him.

I know many of you will not like this idea and i respect that but i feel that it isnt fair to purge people when they are just asking a question like gtachivas.And i also recommend to purge people if they make fun of a language.I hope that swift reads this thread.

I feel like this pursuit will be a dead end, because usually the people who speak another language without noticing that everyone else is blatantly speaking English just do it to be ignorant. 'Gamer tag' is a copyrighted term, and Swift is a name, so neither of those should change regardless of language. If a person who didn't speak English simply said 'Swift gamer tag?', I'm sure everyone would understand what he means, and then reply with similar basic logic.

But yeah, if ever any French people ever enter the chat, I'll do my best to help them.

I think that's a great idea and a nice thing that can be done by those with familiarity with the language spoken. I'm going to let moderators know that if someone is trying to help them, and indicates to the mods that they are trying to help, that they given a minute or two to sort things out....

It would be appreciated if anyone trying to help just clarifies that it's an english only channel and that they are welcome to hang out, but speaking in other languages isn't allowed because it's a distraction. Wow, that's a lot to say. Maybe I should have that in like 10 different languages on the page.

After a minute or two though, if they keep talking in their own language, they would get timed out.

Yea, it happens often. Some can't speak/type English well so they don't feel comfortable or don't bother, and some just preferred it over English. Whatever the case is, they should always be warned and stated that it is an English-only speaking channel. The channel is getting crowded and active lately so sometimes warning people a few times is needed since chat moves very quickly at times.

Also, if you or someone else wants to help them or continue to speak in another language, just take it to IM.

when a person comes in a channel, and he/she is speaking a foriegn language,
from what i've seen, some one will warn them, or even help translate.

imo; there was no legit reason for this thread, seems just like you wanted someone to pat you on your back for something everyone does when it's needed.

snoozie i wanted to help people who speak spanish i nevers thought of helping people from other laguanges but then it wasnt fair.im peruvian thats why i wanted to help people who spoke spanish.saying idk in a thread like this is dumb it was just a waste of a post.i dont want mod spot cus i dont have time to be in swifts channel always and yes i did want swift to see this because i know he cares about this and i wanted to help the channel and dont insult me when you cant even present a good argument.

Well I think that the person speaking Spanish should use a translator when the chat is in English.

I know what it's like having people who speak another language who just want to play or have fun. I have a friend on my 360 gamertag who I met in an Uno match who speaks French. I enjoy playing with him, even though I don't understand what he says. I say that despite language barriers, work around them. Everyone is trying to have fun just like you are.

Embrace other languages! That's what I say. Although it is tough, we should try to help them out all we can. It's all about understanding!

If you understand the language then you understand the culture that someone is coming from...

...there is no need to being ignorant about other languages... i mean come on... recently there was a very large survey taken about the infilitration of the spanish language into the usa... other languages are coming!!! and you should prepare yourself!

I also totally understand the point on how the foreign languages clog up the channels chatroom. I've had much experience with other chatrooms with other languages and it can get very annoying. I respect the rules in place in swiftor's channel. But also, we have the responsibility as humans to help eachother out so if there is a possibility to help another language speaker understand the rules in place of the channel, then I think that option should be taken.
