Thread: Multiplayer Marathon 6 - Everything you need to know!

What is 'Multiplayer Marathon'?

Multiplayer Marathon is an annual charity fundraising event held by GameOn. It takes place every November. We pick a weekend and spend the entirely of it playing multiplayer games via our Live Page. The aim is to encourage community members and viewers alike to donate to a good, charitable cause.

Thus far, over the course of several previous marathons, the community has managed to raise in excess of $25,000. It is one heck of an achievement, and it shows the good that can come from not only gaming culture, but community in general.




The Date & Time:

Starts - Friday 16th November
Ends - Sunday 18th November

The marathon kicks off at 9pm (EST) on the friday and runs all the way through to 9am (EST) on sunday morning. It's a rock-solid 36-hours worth of multiplayer gaming, with many of GameOn's casters staying awake for the entire thing.




The Charity:

This year we are going to be raising money for 'Toys For Tots'

It's a break from tradition. We've raised over $25,000 towards 'Child's Play' during the previous marathons, so it's time to spread the love around. A poll was conducted and 'Toys For Tots' was by far the most popular choice.

'Toys For Tots' is a wonderful charity that provides toys to children from struggling families during the festive season. It's perfect timing for us, with MM6 taking place so close to December. It is also a cause that we can all relate to. We've all been children, and I'm sure we've all experienced the joy and thrill of receiving toys, books and games. No child should be denied those feelings of excitement and self-worth. It's all about sending a message of hope.




What can you expect from the marathon?

• You can expect a whole ton of multiplayer gaming
• You can expect fun and laughter
• You can expect plenty of lol-rage
• You can expect a lot of silliness once sleep deprivation sets in
• You can expect a strong donation drive
• You can expect a great sense of community

And, of course, you can expect what has become a staple of GameOn's charity marathons; Milestones!

Throughout the marathon, much to their own embarrassment, many of GameOn's casters will be forced to partake in certain tasks and dares. These "milestones" will unlock as we reach certain donation amounts.

In the past, we've seen casters shaving off their hair, eating the most repulsive foods, dancing hilariously in drag, heck, even running down their street in their underwear. Not even kidding! O_O

There is a whole ton of fun to be had, with plenty of opportunities for you to get involved in multilayer games. At any given moment during the marathon, there will be plenty of Live Page casters playing a variety of multiplayer games. CoD, GTA, LBP, Starcraft, FIFA, Madden, AC3, you name it!




What happens between now and then?

From now until then it's all about preparation. We'll be putting together a list of awesome milestones, contacting the charity in order to arrange a chip-in, creating a 4-way split-screen for the Live Page, seeking means of event promotion, etc.

The marathon will be here in no time, and we definitely hope to see you all there. In the meantime, help to spread the word!

Would community members be able to do milestones like I did last year with shaving my head? Because I wanted to eat some kind of pepper like a habanero dipped in tabasco sauce or something along those lines.

Of course.

One thing I will say though, is that the main milestone list this year will be kept at a manageable size (maybe 15-20 total). Quality over quantity, as it were. The donation drive works a lot better that way.

I believe somebody else plans to eat a hot pepper too, so maybe instead of the two of you doing it individually, you can make a competition out of it. Two-way Skype. First person to finish the pepper wins. That would be fun.

This Year is gonna be awesome!!!! I didn't get to do a milestone last year, I'll try and see if i can do one this year.

I'm really happy we're spreading the love around. Toys for Tots is a charity I'm familiar with in comparison to Child's Play and its definitely a charity I know will get a lot of support. =] Can't wait!

I'm trying to get my school to promote the event, actually. I'll be informed about whether or not it's good to go this upcoming Wednesday.

Not only will I be hyping this up, but I already have Niero and the whole of Destructoid behind this as well. I'll be working my balls off to perhaps get some special guests and giveaways, etc, rolling, as well as working with TTV to make sure this is promoted properly. I'm for SURE down for 24 hours, and may be available for the entire 36, I'll know more as we get closer to the event. I can't wait, and it's an honor to come back home, help out a great cause, and a great event. Thanks for having me, can't wait!

My body is ready, but my schedule isn't ready. I have something all Saturday and will probably be too tired to stay up. Boo we'll see what I can do, but making sure to download all my multiplayer games for PC for the time I do get to view the event.
